SILK NECKTIE: WHAT
TO LOOK FOR
The Dimensions: The standard
width of a tie is 3 1/4 inches (2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inches are also
acceptable).
The Material: Silk ties are
the best. You can recognize it by feeling the fabric.
The Cut: The cut should form
exactly a 45-degree angle. Test this by holding the tie out in
front of you, gripping the narrow end. It should not twist. A
bias cut ensures that the tie falls straight over the back of
your hand without any curls or twists.
The Shape: A quality tie retains
its original shape. Tug at both ends of the tie to see if it regains
its original shape.
The Hang: When made to hang
at the midpoint, the tie should hang straight. This ensures good
bounding of the fabric.
